Introductory Ohara Ryu Ikebana Workshop
July 28th 6:00-7:30 (Thursday) $70 (Flower materials included)
Materials (Provided):
-Container (see pictures below)
-Flowers
-Ikebana shears (hasami) will be provided to use during the workshop
Each student will take home the arrangement they create.
For this workshop, materials will be provided however students are highly encouraged to bring their own Ikebana container, Ikebana scissors, and Kenzans (3.5 x 2-5/8") if they are able. Students may borrow them from the instructor during the class or purchase them from the instructor. Please address any questions to JCC regarding the class supplies.
Due to the city wide announcement, this class is now requiring proof of vaccination for entry. Prior to the class, please email a photo or PDF of the front and back of your vaccination card to [email protected]. Masks are also required.
Yuko Inoue Darcy
Since 2005, Ms. Inoue has been teaching Ikebana in the Chicagoland area. She is a member of and instructor of the Ohara School of Ikebana, both in Japan and in the U.S. Originally from Japan, Ms. Inoue practiced Ikebana, Tea Ceremony and Incense Ceremony from a young age. She moved to the U.S. where she received a Master’s degree in Comparative Literature from Washington University in St. Louis. Then she accepted a teaching position at West Side High School, a public high school in Gary, Indiana where she strived to teach students about Japanese art, culture and language.
Currently, Ms. Inoue is an active Ikebana lecturer, exhibitor and demonstrator who travels nationally and internationally. She has an active study group in Sofia, Bulgaria. Her principal teachers are the late Hougyoku Hirai, the late Kazuko Ernst, and Houhatsu Takeuchi. She was also an Aikido student under the late Fumio Toyoda Shihan, founder of the Japanese Culture Center. Ms. Inoue is the President of the Ohara School of Ikebana Chicago Chapter.
