About this Event

Ichiyo Demonstration from 11:00 AM

Ichiyo -- The Elusive Search for Truth and Beauty

Please join us to explore this thought with a demonstration of Ichiyo Ikebana basics by Anna Nakada, Junior Executive Master of the Ichiyo School of Ikebana and a longtime student of the late Third Headmaster Akihiro Kasuya of Ichiyo School. She has taught and demonstrated Ichiyo in the US and overseas since 1996, including three solo demonstrations at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. An avid supporter of Ikebana International, Anna was elected International president of Ikebana International (2001-2002) and continues serving in other capacities.

Arrangements in the manner of Ichiyo School are intended to arouse people's senses differently from traditional ikebana, giving the viewer an experience with nature that is unexpected, stimulating, and profound.

Ginza Bazaar from 12:15: Come & shop!

What is Ginza Bazaar? Named for the famous shopping district in Tokyo, we fundraise with your donated ikebana containers and accessories. For the "white elephant table" we welcome Japanese items such as containers, or jewelry, and other fun items suitable for your holiday shopping. Consignment sales on items priced at $50 or more are acceptable; seller keeps 80%. Bring your donation to the event by 10:30 am. Contact Ways and Means Committee chair, Shizue Pleasanton [email protected] for questions. All Ginza Bazaar proceeds benefit IINY.

In addtion, pottery artists will be selling their wares, along with lovely bags made from old kimono will be available.

All Ginza Bazaar proceeds benefit I.I.NY. Because I.I.NY is exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, your donation is fully tax-deductible to the extent of the law. 10% of proceeds go to the Carola Meller Memorial Fund for educational purposes.

Bring checks or cash for Ginza Bazaar purchases!!!

Ikebana International (I.I.) is a worldwide non-profit organization founded in Tokyo, Japan in 1956, with members from more than 50 countries; Ikebana International New York Chapter (I.I.NY) is one of 250 chapters worldwide.

I.I.NY is administered by enthusiastic volunteers of many different nationalities and Ikebana Schools. Some of the Schools stress classic style, others focus on creative, contemporary forms, and some blend the two; each school is different, yet each is openly sharing in its inspirations, styles, philosophy, history, and techniques. We encourage you to become a member of I.I.NY, so you will have more opportunities to participate in our programs and communicate with Ikebana talents and enthusiasts from Ichiyo, Ikenobo, Sogetsu, Ohara, and many other Ikebana schools.

At this year’s I.I.NY December 6th event, we have special gifts for 2022-2023 new I.I.NY members and anyone who decided to become a member on that day.

Contact Ways and Means Committee chair, Shizue Pleasanton ( [email protected] ) for Ginza Bazaar related questions.
