This February, the IIREES team is organizing an educational geological field trip to Kutch, Gujarat for undergraduate and postgraduate students of geoscience and allied disciplines. The main objective of this program is to provide students with **hands-on field experience** and practical learning beyond classroom teaching.Kutch is one of the most unique regions in India where students can understand **Earth’s history, natural processes, and human evolution** in a single landscape. Through this field trip, participants will gain learning experiences that are difficult to achieve in a classroom setting.
### Key Learning Activities During the Field Trip
During the program, participants will:
* Learn about **Earth’s history from the Jurassic period to the time of the Indus Valley Civilization**
* Observe and study **fossils** and understand ancient life forms
* Visit **Asia’s largest salt desert (Rann of Kutch)** and learn about its formation
* Explore a **meteorite impact structure** and understand impact processes
* Study an extinct volcanic region
* Visit landscapes that show strong similarities to the surface of Mars, often used for planetary and space research studies
