Welcome to the September edition of the IGI Gender Inequality group's informal monthly research discussions. This month's topic is:


Best practice in education, understanding and support for FGM

The meeting will feature short presentations from:

  • Prof Jeannette Littlemore & Dr Susan Waigwa, Professor of English Language and Applied Linguistics and Postdoctoral Research Fellow, English Language and Literature, University of Birmingham
  • Dr Rasha Bayoumi, Assistant Professor of Psychology and Head of Research for the Dubai Campus, University of Birmingham

This is an informal, 'show & tell' event to encourage discussions, networking, research ideation and collaboration and sharing ideas. Drinks and snacks will be provided and you are welcome to bring your lunch.

Jeannette and Susan will be presenting their work: "Investigating the language that is used in educational and promotional materials relating to FGM that are used in the West Midlands"

Rasha will present her work on FGM, sexuality and sexual and reproductive health in low and middle income countries (LMICs)

The meetings are held in the Institute of Global Innovations building at 54 Pritchatts Road on the University of Birmingham campus, in the main seminar room, G05. The room has hybrid capabilities and participation via Zoom is possible. Please sign up and confirm your attendance type (online or in person) by 30th August for catering.
