About this Event

Founded in 1896, State Library of Queensland is the leading reference and research library in Queensland. This is your chance to visit the building and get an exclusive tour of the award-winning State Library of Queensland building.

A range of new services and spaces were designed to intentionally welcome new audiences to the library. For the first time in an Australian state library, children under 8 years enjoyed a space designed specifically for them and their carers: The Corner. First Nations knowledge, history and culture is acknowledged and celebrated in kuril dhagun. The library offers a program of curated exhibitions to showcase its collections in the Talbot Family Treasures Wall, slq Gallery, Australian Library of Art and kuril dhagun.

Join our specialist staff to see how our collections are stored and cared for in the repository and conservation lab as well as a peek at where staff work.

Discover why State Library building won state and national Royal Institute of Architects awards on the tour around the building. The redeveloped building, designed by Donovan Hill Peddle Thorp, was awarded Australia’s top prize for public architecture: the Royal Australian Institute of Architects’ Sir Zelman Cowen Award for Public Architecture, 2007.

You can read a history of State Library in this blog which was written to celebrate its 120 years of service to Queenslanders.
