Njeri Kinuthia grew up in an ultra-religious environment where the expectations of modesty placed heavy constraints on women. Her presentation to the CFFC will delve into her personal journey, examining her identity beyond the confines of cultural, religious, political, and social norms.Originally from Kenya, Njeri earned her bachelor’s degree in fashion design before relocating to the United States in 2021 to pursue a master’s in fine arts at the University of Central Florida.
Her work celebrates the strength and liberation of women, challenging the religious and cultural systems that have historically oppressed and suppressed them. Drawing inspiration from African textiles, traditional architecture, and even sacred spaces, Njeri explores how culture shapes identity. Through a variety of mediums, she poses the question, “How does culture shape who we are?”
Njeri’s artistic achievements have earned her numerous accolades, including the 2024 Florida Prize in Contemporary Art People’s Choice Award, the 2024 University of Central Florida Outstanding Graduate Creative Research Award, the 2023 Éclat Law Prize, the 2023 United Arts Public Art Award, and the 2023 Innovation in Arts Award, among others.

CFFC Educational Events are free and open to the public. Enjoy thought-provoking speakers, local freethought news, state/church activism, volunteer opportunities, and socializing. Come out to meet old friends and make new ones. Coffee and water will be available with snacks served during the social hour after the meeting so plan to stay a while.
CFFC has no membership dues, but we do have recurring expenses that keep the organization running. The largest expense are these monthly meetings (venue, equipment, speaker fees, travel, etc.).
If you share our values, care about the work we do, and find yourself able to contribute, here's a link for you. We love our monthly donors! www.cflfreethought.org/cfldonate
