The “Institute of Classical and Modern Dance” was founded by Pia Sutaria to fill the void of a vocational education for young and passionate dancers and performers in India, by bridging the gap between hobby classes and a vocational education. We focus on mentoring students to apply to full-time and part-time performing arts programs and conservatories around the world and equip them with the necessary training to be able to attend such programs.
Through ICMD, we launched the first Indian Youth Dance Company (IYCD), dedicated to creating a platform for young Indian dancers, many of whom travel abroad for advanced studies in the arts, to engage with international standards of artistic achievement. This initiative aims to connect leading choreographers, both domestic and international, with the Indian Youth Dance Company and its emerging talent. In the past year, we premiered a new work, Sukshma at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center, a select number of students were invited to train in London where we also toured Sukshma at The Place and the Royal Academy of Dance Headquarters. Moreover, the company has performed for the opening of luxury brands Coach, India Couture Week for Falguni Shane Peacock, Schwarzkopf, Westside, and the launch of Nilaya by Asian Paints among many others.
This showcase is a culmination of our students' progress over the academic year, showcasing a diverse range of styles choreographed by Neeraj Lohani, Arjun Menon, Tarini Tripathi, Alicia Misquitta, Mrigya Tiwari, Tanya Chauhan, and Jessica Nicholas. This concert style evening will include short performances in Classical Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Modern, Kathak, Ballet, Tap, and Calisthenics.
