The Power of SChoreographic work by Aleksandar Georgiev

The work emancipates the very heteronoramtive markers and notions that have been for
generations constructing specific models of normative bodies and their identities. Through
this 50 min of poetically choreographed anal bodies, the work shifts the perspective and
reinvents the body as we know it and its identity markers with their potentialities. The identity politics approached from behind demolishes the very frontal body, the phallic body,
the heteronormative body, the reproductive body, and the (liberal) individual body, among
other socially constructed bodies. Entering the sphere of identity politics from behind is such strong potential for a collective shift of perception over identity itself.
The concept of the anal body proposes something more intrinsic to the body itself, devoid
of reinforcing a hetero-capitalistic logic centered on reproduction, self-possessiveness,
verticality, and property/propriety. Anal politics posits that the body can find meaning and assume an active role in society without being primarily focused on reproduction. Rather, it emphasizes the body's capacity to maintain balance, offer comfort, and willingly embrace
passivity and vulnerability. It aims to transcend any specific identity, be it male, female,
non-binary, trans, etc., and seeks to legitimize and emancipate pleasure as a critical aspect, one that has been problematically suppressed in our heteronormative and religiously
influenced sociopolitical environments.
The work proposes a poetic space for collective emancipation towards an anal body.
Synopsis
We are on four waiting for you. Spread out. Completely open.
The Power of S deals with the politicisation of the ANUS and its demystification. This is anal
choreography done from behind, out of its operational mode of shame and blame, transforming its history as a privatised space into a sphere full of political potential.
The anus, historically neglected because it doesn’t play a protagonist role in our reproduction system, is taking now the front row, celebrating its polymorphic pleasure.
Throughout 60 minutes, three choreographed bodies "revive" the anus through its "breathing", illustrated by the loosening and the tightening of the sphincters, discovering the
uncanny potentials of this "shameful", "inappropriate" and perpetually covered part of our body. Through this visual impression, the concept of anal politics, as a social and not a private issue, is explored. The Power of S celebrates gaining control and power over one's own body and the environment, through complete deconstruction of the phallocentric-upright through which identity is uniformly defined in the heteronormative environment. “Hey, it’s me. Behind. You haven’t noticed me in a while. You only pay attention to me
occasionally. You never dared to put me in the spotlight. And I'm tired. I'm tired of being
privatised. I'm tired of being censored, covered. I'm tired of being in a place where the sun
never touches. It’s time for you to make me a protagonist. It might be the only way to
continue.
I want you to observe me, to judge me, to love me, to get awkward with me, to get lost in me,
to tune with me. I need you to nourish me. I need you to celebrate my power. I want you to see me as part of you. Because I'm there, I have always been right behind you. I'm the key to an unknown cosmos. You just need to knock three times.”

festival by Youth Cultural Centre in Skopje, Aleksandar Georgiev produces his new
choreographic work “The power of S”

BIO
Aleksandar Georgiev (Ace) is an artist working with and around choreography between a couple of places (Tenerife, Sofia, Skopje, and Stockholm). His practice revolves around
choreography, whether narrowly or expansively understood, while actively engaging in curatorial formats and the creation of imaginative institutions, such as the Imaginative Choreographic Center (ICC) and the queer cultural program PEC. Alongside his individual work, he is deeply committed to processes of collective authorship, especially through the artistic team STEAM ROOM, together with Darío Barreto Damas and Zhana Pencheva. His
artistic interests include the politicization of the anus, “reading from behind,” “nostalgia as
poetic archiving,” “radical tenderness,” “cheating as a social endeavor,” and “imaginative
structures as support systems.”
He holds an MA in Choreography from DOCH – School of Dance and Circus, Stockholm and a BA in Dance Theatre from New Bulgarian University, Sofia, complemented by a range of non-institutional programs and self-organized learning processes that continue to shape his artistic approach. His work is marked by a commitment to co-thinking, co-dreaming, and co-imagining possible and necessary futures and structures.

Произведението еманципира самите хетеронормативни маркери и представи, които поколения наред конструират конкретни модели на нормативни тела и техните
идентичности. В рамките на тези 50 минути поетично хореографирани анални тела,
работата измества перспективата и преосмисля тялото такова, каквото го познаваме,
както и неговите идентификационни маркери и потенциалности. Идентичностната
политика, разгледана „отзад“, демонтира фронталното тяло, фалическото тяло,
хетеронормативното тяло, репродуктивното тяло и (либералното) индивидуално тяло,
наред с други социално конструирани тела. Навлизането в полето на идентичностната
политика отзад носи силен потенциал за колективна промяна в начина, по който
възприемаме самата идентичност.
Концепцията за аналното тяло предлага нещо по-дълбинно и присъщо на самото тяло,
освободено от логиките на хетеро-капитализма, центрирани около репродукцията,
самопритежанието, вертикалността и собствеността/приличието. Аналната политика
предполага, че тялото може да намира смисъл и да заема активна роля в обществото,
без да бъде първично фокусирано върху репродукцията. Вместо това тя подчертава
способността на тялото да поддържа баланс, да предлага комфорт и съзнателно да
приема пасивността и уязвимостта. Тя се стреми да надхвърли всяка конкретна идентичност — мъжка, женска, небинарна, транс и др. — и да легитимира и еманципира удоволствието като критичен аспект, проблематично потискан в нашите хетеронормативни и религиозно обусловени социополитически среди.
Произведението предлага поетично пространство за колективна еманципация към аналното тяло.
Ние сме четирима и те чакаме. Разпръснати. Напълно отворени.

В рамките на 60 минути три хореографирани тела „съживяват“ ануса чрез неговото
„дишане“, визуализирано чрез отпускането и стягането на сфинктерите, разкривайки
зловещите потенциали на тази „срамна“, „неподходяща“ и постоянно покривана част от
нашето тяло. Чрез това визуално преживяване концепцията за аналната политика, като социален, а не частен въпрос, се изследва и разгръща. The Power of S празнува
възвръщането на контрол и сила върху собственото тяло и средата чрез пълна
деконструкция на фалоцентричната вертикалност, през която идентичността се
дефинира унифицирано в хетеронормативната среда.
“Хей, това съм аз. Отзад. Отдавна не си ме забелязвал. Обръщаш ми внимание само от време на време. Никога не си се осмелявал да ме поставиш в светлината на
прожекторите. А аз съм уморен. Уморен съм да бъда приватизиран. Уморен съм да бъда цензуриран, покриван. Уморен съм да бъда на място, което слънцето никога не
докосва. Време е да ме направиш протагонист. Може би това е единственият начин да
продължим.
Искам да ме наблюдаваш, да ме съдиш, да ме обичаш, да се чувстваш неловко с мен,
да се изгубиш в мен, да се настроиш към мен. Имам нужда да ме подхранваш. Имам нужда да празнуваш моята сила. Искам да ме видиш като част от себе си. Защото аз
съм там, винаги съм бил точно зад теб. Аз съм ключът към непознат космос. Трябва само да почукаш три пъти.”
„The Power of S“ се появява като един от резултатите от хореографското изследване
„CO-series“ на хореографа Александaр Георгиев, което се занимава с практиките на
съ-съществуване чрез хореография и танц.
В партньорство с Локомотива – център за нови инициативи в изкуството и културата и фестивал MOT към Младежкия културен център в Скопие, Александaр
Георгиев създава новото си хореографско произведение „The Power of S“.
