About this Event
Truth is dead.
We are now in the era of ‘truth-lite’. Postmodernism’s late 20th century rejection of objective truths and metanarratives appears to have regressed to disinformation and deep fakes. There appears to be a relentless bombardment of bias confirmation, tailoring of views and hopefully, the swinging of our votes. Are we no longer outraged at political deceit or industrial lies? Do we sit back and watch as our important public spaces become ever more performative and constructed through memes. Philosophical relativism might argue that the public don’t need intellectual distinctions on theoretical concepts and instead that truth operates relative to our own lives and contexts. What are the global political, social and economic consequences for our need to dispense with truth?
