About this Event
Ian Woods came to Norwich in 1975 to study at UEA, and as with many graduates stayed. Working first in publishing, then as manager of Norwich Puppet Theatre he has developed an interest in all things Norwich. Some 15 years ago he was recruited by the Norwich Pageantry Group to be a Whiffler, and thereby his knowledge of "Snap" began.
Snap - the onomatopoeically named dragon that now leads the Lord Mayor's Procession - has a long and illustrious history. Born of myth and fable, a survivor of reformation and and ultimately revived by immitation by the common folk of the City.Ian's talk will explore this history (with embellishments) and the role of Snap in the rich tapestry of Norwich's life.
A note on the venue - the Orangery at Carrow House is stunning, but very chilly! We'll have free hot drinks an blankets to keep you snuggly, but we would highly recommed wrapping up warm.
