Ian Ethan Case’s “Open Land Trio” fuses the rich, intricate sound of his acoustic double-neck guitar with the expertise of two of Boston's premier improvisers: drummer Tyson D. Jackson and saxophonist Jonathan Suazo. As a Candyrat recording artist, Case has rapidly gained acclaim as “one of the most creative and engaging fingerstyle guitarists in the world,” according to The International Center for Creativity. His distinctive playing style and compositional skill have attracted praise from musical legends such as John McLaughlin of Mahavishnu Orchestra, bassist Lee Sklar, and Don Ross, who described his live performances as some of the most inventive musicianship he has ever witnessed. His music, often compared to the works of Michael Hedges, Steve Reich, and Pat Metheny, straddles complex rhythmic structures and cinematic soundscapes.

Case has performed and collaborated with an array of significant figures in the instrumental music scene, including Victor Wooten, Stanley Jordan, and members of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. His music has featured on major U.S. radio programs such as NPR’s "Here & Now" and PRI's "Echoes", and his performances and videos have reached audiences worldwide. Growing up in a remote area with limited musical collaboration opportunities, Case was compelled to develop innovative methods to extend his musical capabilities as a solo artist, utilizing a mix of technology, unique instruments, and creative techniques to produce the layered ensemble sounds he envisioned. His education at Berklee College of Music and his experiences at music camps and clinics further shaped his musical style, allowing him to absorb influences from renowned jazz musicians like John Pattitucci and Antonio Sanchez, among others.

Through years of touring and hundreds of concerts across multiple continents, Ian Ethan Case has refined his unique musical voice. His newly formed Open Land Trio encapsulates his distinctive playing style within an improvisational, rhythmically vibrant, and harmonically rich musical setting, brought to life by some of the most talented and innovative musicians of the new generation.

Drummer Tyson D. Jackson, a distinguished graduate of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, started his musical career in his community church in West Palm Beach, Florida. Over the years, he has studied under and been mentored by world-renowned artists such as Dee Dee Bridgewater and Terri Lynn Carrington, earning a reputation for his deep musicality and versatile playing style, which have made him a sought-after musician both in Boston and beyond.

Jonathan Suazo, a standout alto saxophonist, was recognized as one of the top ten emerging jazz artists of 2023 by the GRAMMYS. His debut album “Ricano” has been critically acclaimed, and he has received numerous accolades including grants and scholarships, underscoring his significant impact on the jazz scene. His music combines superb timing, melodic mastery, and vibrant energy, which have garnered attention from prestigious publications like Downbeat jazz magazine and endorsements from established musicians such as Miguel Zenón, who regards Suazo as a key figure in the new generation of Puerto Rican musicians.
