IRC Plan Review - .6 CEU
GOAL:
Apply the critical concepts and provisions of the 2021 International Residential Code®.
OBJECTIVES:
Explain the fundamental provisions of the 2021 IRC when performing Plan Review.
Locate general topics and applicable tables in the 2021 IRC.
Define terms essential for correct code interpretation.
Identify the code that relates to the design, construction or inspection of residential buildings.
Upon completion of this course, you will be better able to:
Perform steps in completing a residential plan review.
Apply the 2021 IRC to the plan review process.
Identify where minimum code requirements have not been met and cite applicable code sections.
FORMAT:
This is a one-day seminar taken from the original two-day seminar materials from which we will choose topics of interest from the students. The instruction style will be conversational so bring your questions and your code book.

Patrick Parsley CBO
Patrick Parsley is retired Community Development Director of Hiawatha IA. (2014 to 20241) Building Official of Fairmont, MN. (1989 to 2014) Commercial and Residential construction (1976 to 1989). Holds follow Certifications, CBO, Plans examiner, Commercial Plumbing, Residential Electrical.
Has received awards for Minnesota Building Official of the year, Herb Meyer Award, Iowa (IABO) Building Official of the Year. Region III Brent Synder Award 2023.
Service to the Profession, Minnesota Board of AELSLAGID, Governor Appointment (2005-2008) International Code Council Board of Directors 2008-2014, Association of Minnesota Building Officials (AMBO) Legislative Committee, IRC code committee, Executive Secretary. (2003-2012) Participated in ICC Code hearings (2000-2017), Served on ICC Interpretations Committee for the IRC (2001-2006) Southwest Minnesota Chapter; President (1997-1998)

2024 IRC Significant Changes - .6 CEU
This class reviews and analyzes selected significant changes from the 2021 IRC to the 2024 IRC. It familiarizes building officials, fire officials, plans examiners, inspectors and design professionals with many of the significant changes in the 2024 IRC. It assists code users in identifying the specific code changes that have occurred, and more importantly, understanding the reason behind the change. Changes to building, energy, mechanical, fuel gas, plumbing and electrical requirements are discussed. Finally, the seminar focuses on those code changes selected due to their frequency of application, special significance or change in application. This course uses the Significant Changes to the International Residential Code 2024 Edition as its basis. The goal of Significant Changes to the International Residential Code® 2024 Edition is to familiarize building officials, fire officials, plans examiners, inspectors, design professionals, contractors, and others in the construction industry with many of the important changes in the 2024 International Residential Code® (IRC®). This class is designed to assist those code users in identifying the specific code changes that have occurred and understanding the reasons behind the change.

2024 IBC Significant Nonstructural Changes - .6 CEU
This seminar reviews and analyzes selected significant changes from the 2021 to the 2024 edition of the International Building Code (IBC). Although the focus of the presentation is on revisions to the IBC fire- and life-safety provisions, additional areas of discussion include accessibility, construction materials and building services. The seminar assists building officials, fire officials, plans examiners, inspectors and design professionals in identifying the specific code changes that have occurred and understanding the reasoning behind the changes.
Instructor Bio:
John M. Gibson, Jr., M.C.P., C.B.O., C.P.C.A., C.F.M.
John is the Technical Manager/ Education and an Instructor for the International Code Council (ICC). A certified Master Code Professional and Certified Fire Marshal; he has forty- five (45) other certifications, including thirty- six (36) from the ICC. Having earned a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Delaware, he has also studied Architecture at Georgia Tech and completed courses in Emergency Management and Fire Prevention at the National Emergency Training Center.
Formerly the Director of the Department of Permits and Inspections for Frederick County Maryland, he is an ICC Honorary Member, has served on the ICC- Evaluations Services (ICC- ES) Board of Directors, the ICC Code Correlating Committee, the Board of Directors for BOCA International, Inc., Maryland’s Governor’s Smart Code Strategy Group, Chaired the ICC Board for International Professional Standards and is an Honorary Member and Past President of the Maryland Building Officials Association.
He currently teaches ICC administrative, building, residential, existing building, permit technician, property maintenance, zoning, green building, fire, wildland/urban interface, energy courses, and is a contract instructor at the Dept. of Homeland Security, United States Fire Administration, National Fire Academy, Emmitsburg, MD. He received the ICC Educator of the Year award in 2010.
