“I WANT MY!” An 80s Tribute Show Celebrating the Glory Years of Music Television is a multi-media spectacle featuring vocalists, dancers and an amazing light show to be hosted by WOWY Radio Personality, The “Real Deal” Bob Steele and will benefit a great cause – Gloria Gates Care. Proudly presented by P&J Productions in association with Blair County Arts Foundation.A little over 4 decades ago, the 80’s were alive and well and there was a particular audience for this genre; or maybe time period is more accurate. But it really was more than that. It was a sound, a style and a feeling that could only be truly appreciated by those fortunate enough to have been there firsthand. We all soaked up the videos of our favorite artists. We all knew that Jenny could be reached at 867-5309 and will forever have these seven digits etched into our memory. It was a time when Frankie told us to relax, we were hungry like the wolf, and we did the safety dance. For the first time in history, image was just as important as music. A good music video could instantly catapult a new act to stardom, and it was all driven by the success of a wildly popular new music cable channel called MTV.
Just as common as the leg warmers, neon colors, and hair so big and bold that it took an entire can of hairspray to hold it together, the genres that made up the 80s were completely diverse and versatile.
No other decade had a more metamorphic time in history than the 1980s, especially when it came to the music industry. “I WANT MY!” An 80s Tribute Show revisits the artists and sounds that defined a decade….in fact, I bet you can probably smell the hairspray just reading this…
