2000ndate muusikamaailm oli kirju. Uue aastatuhande alguses jätkus 90-ndate popmuusika edulugu ja NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Christina Aguilera ning Britney Spears said nautida uue ajastu tehnoloogia võlusid, et oma looduga veel kiiremini kuulajateni jõuda.
See oli aeg, mil populaarsust kogus R&B muusika. Usher, Rihanna, Beyoncé ja Alicia Keys kinnitasid end igaveseks muusikamaailma ajalukku ning 2004. aasta Billboard Year-End Hot 100 muusikaedetabelis oli esimese 25 loo seas 15 R&B lugu.
Lisaks tegid juba legendistaatuses Michael Jackson ja Madonna teatud mõttes comebacki oma uute ja kaasaegsete väljaannetega. Ruumi jäi ka Garage-Rock'ile ja Indie Rockile ning sündis muusikastiil "Grime". Oma populaarsuse tipu saavutasid mitmed alternatiivroki kollektiivid, näiteks Coldplay, Björk, Dido ja Oasis.
