We often associate places we know deeply with food. What does it mean to archive foods that make a place through writing? BSL Interpreted.
About this Event

Interdisciplinary artist Tice Cin will lead us through writing exercises inspired by Food TikTok and food critics like The Chicken Connoisseur, our local surroundings and writing from the likes of poet Romalyn Ante, novelist Caleb Azumah Nelson and food writer Rebecca May Johnson. We’ll also look at food imagery from the likes of artist Olivia Twist, and responding to musical explorations of food in ends. The way that we can locate the things that make a place is increasingly at risk, due to gentrification, social isolation and labour imbalances, what does it then mean to consider food?

Food can be political, food is comfort, food is an everyday necessity. An area can become like home through certain foods too – from places like Green Lanes in Haringey that are known for kebabs, to the marketplaces with campaigns to save them like #SaveRidleyRoad. In some writing, detailed sensory food descriptions can capture an audience and bring them to travel to taste with you, like Edmund eating Turkish Delight in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Join us to think about food and write.
