Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University (AYBU) Institute for International Relations and Strategic Studies (ULISA-IIRSR) will host the I. International Humanitarian Aid Symposium (ULIYAS) during 6-7-8 December 2024 in partnership with the Turkish Red Crescent Türkiye Diyanet Foundation and University of New York Tirana. The selected papers submitted on December 15 2024 will be published in the Humanitarian Aid Special Issue of Ulisa: Journal of International Studies. Papers submitted by the full-text deadline of December 20 that are not published in the journal will be included in the full-text proceedings book.
Humanitarian aid considered a sub-branch of humanitarian diplomacy where civil groups and organizations can be influential alongside traditional state diplomacy is based on cooperation and support in difficult times. Since the world faces severe humanitarian crises worldwide approximately 245 million people need urgent humanitarian assistance today. Disasters war internal conflicts migration movements epidemics drought ethnic discrimination and hunger cause humanitarian crises. Today humanitarian aid is one of the most strategic means of waving flags appealing to hearts and minds and soft power.
Humanitarian aid has many dimensions related to economics politics sociology psychology health and theology. Issues such as prevailing socioeconomic disparities rising national and global income inequalities and natural disasters heighten its significance. Humanitarian aid studies must be supported in theory as well as in practice.
In this context the symposium aims to bring together public institutions and organizations international organizations universities non-governmental organizations academics and experts who carry out academic studies in humanitarian aid. Within the framework of humanitarian aid the symposium will discuss many subjects such as economics law political science international relations sociology psychology health theology and social work and different approaches in the field will be discussed.
