About

The discussion will speak into the need for an All-Party Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry for Truth and Reparatory Justice and how I AM WITNESS is a Stop the Maangamizi Campaign initiative to raise awareness of the need for community testimonials in this process. It will also touch on the Global Majority VS UK Government Campaign.

Who will we hear from?

Our Facilitator Jendayi Serwah is a Public Speaker, Trainer, Facilitator, Community Developer, and Reparations Activist specialising in race equity and its intersections, personal and organisational strategic development and psychosocial education for change. You can listen to Jendayi’s Radio Show Glocal which focuses on Afrikan political, cultural, and social affairs, on Ujima every Friday. Jendayi is also the convenor of AfrikanConneXions Consortium, a lobbying group promoting the interest of Afrikan Heritage people in Bristol and the South West.

Panelists

Cllr Amirah Cole - Elected to represent Ashley ward inMay 2021, she has a background as a Community Organiser and Activist, with a wealth of experience in campaigning to protect community, cultural and environmental assets. She has contributed to Bristol aspects of the I Am Witness work.

Esther Stanford- Xosei - A Pan-Afrikanist Jurisconsult, Reparationist and Community Advocate specialising in reparations law-making, policy development and movement-building under the auspices of the Pan-Afrikan Reparations Coalition in Europe, Stop The Maangamizi Campaign and International Network of Scholars & Activists for Afrikan Reparations.

Kobina Amokwandoh - An organiser, campaigning forPlanet Repairs as reparations through community-led repairs and education. A Coordinator and Co-claimant for the Global MajorityVs (GMVs) campaign, a movement dedicated to opposing colonialism.Key Mobiliser of youth in GARFOL(The Glocal Afrikan ReparationsForum Of London).

What else do I need to know?

This session will be hosted upstairs on the first floor of the Coach House in our Social Enterprise Incubator.

Parking and bike racks

There is metered parking available around Portland Square (4 hours at a time max) which is 3 minutes walk away, or a nearby Brunswick Square (2 hours at a time max) which is 1 minute walk away. Alternatively, there is a nearby NCP car park (situated between Brunswick and Portland Square) and parking in Cabot Circus shopping centre which is 4 minutes walk away. There are also bike racks available for use in the courtyard.

Accessibility

The Coach House is unfortunately not an accessible building due to its age. This includes lack of accessible toilets for disabled people. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused, we are working to raise funds to address this issue as part of our future plans for refurbishment.
