About this Event

Hybrid Introduction to Soil-less Agriculture Certificate Course

This 4-week course helps train individuals to understand the importance, materials, construction, maintenance, and products utilized to create and farm a successful hydroponics system in various ways. Completion of this course will earn certification.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

  • Beginning farmers, urban agriculturalists, students, and agriculture service providers (ASPs) that are interested in learning how to operate hydroponics systems.
  • Policy makers, industry leaders, and others that want to enhance their understanding of local farming and gain hands-on experience.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

Participants will learn:

  • The importance of soil-less systems in the past as well as for the future and in urban spaces
  • The difference between different types of soil-less systems and their various designs
  • What factors, materials, and labor are required to maintain distinct types of hydroponics systems
  • The skills required to assemble, install, maintain, and adjust hydroponics systems

WHEN ARE THE CLASSES MEETING?

Tuesdays - Virtual Sessions via Zoom, 2-4pm

  • October 22nd, October 29th, November 5th, November 12th

Wednesdays - In person Sessions @ Lamond-Riggs Food Hub, 10am-12pm

  • October 23rd, October 30th, November 6th, November 13th

HOW CAN YOU PAY FOR THE COURSE?

The course fee of $150.00 is payable by money order to the "University of the District of Columbia".

Payment must be received by UDC by Monday, October 21st in order to participate in the course.

The course is free for current UDC students.

Payment Options:

a) By Mail in advance: UDC Cashier’s Office, c/o CAUSES, 4200 Connecticut Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20008

b) Through the Cashier’s Office in advance: Building 39, 2nd floor, Room 201, 9am to 4pm, Monday through Friday

*All course sessions, both in-person and virtual (16 hours total), must be attended in order to complete the course. When you pass this course, you will earn a certificate of completion from UDC.
