SYNOPSIS

Many would agree that 2022 has been a challenging years globally. The Russian invasion to Ukraine back in February has caused shortages of energy supply throughout Europe and shortages of food supply pretty much around the globe. The rise of energy cost due to shortages has led to inflation on pretty much everything else apart from wages. This has led to industry actions and strikes amongst frontline service workers in transportation, postal, border control and healthcare around the UK.

Inflation also means business owners are facing higher costs in procurement and day-to-day overhead expenditure. Organisations need to re-think how they operate in order to sustain their business. During 2022, there was a number of very high profile big tech redundancies (not just in America but globally) from Meta (Facebook), Amazon, Twitter, Tesla, Microsoft, Salesforce, Netflix.

While most countries in the world are slowly catching up with the Covid-19 backlog economically, on the other hand, China, the 2nd largest economy and the biggest exporter in the world has just started implementing herd immunity after nearly 3 years of the zero Covid-19 tolerance lockdown. With 1.4 billion population, it will take a while to achieve the herd immunity. It looks like the manufacturing issues and logistics bottleneck could last till a large part of 2023.

We can't predict when the Russian invasion to Ukraine will come to an end. If the invasion continues in 2023, the energy and food shortages will continue. Therefore, inflation will continue. Organisations are very keen to increase their automation to save cost and to reduce reliance on manual work. Automation means adopting more advanced and latest emerging technologies. My prediction in 2023 is that there would be more businesses adopting the emerging technologies such as IoT, AI, ML, Robotics, Digital Twin, Metaverse, Quantum computing, Blockchain etc. This has created both challenges and opportunities to Business Analysts. In my talk, I will discuss both the challenges and opportunities to Business Analysts in 2023.
