This is the main event of the Hutt River Festival. Hosted by Hutt Valley Canoe Club, the prestigious and oldest whitewater race in New Zealand (54 years). 9:00am-Registration opens.
11:45am-Pre-Race safety meeting.
High Noon-Race starts.
-Race starts from the “put-in” with the finish flag after “toilet bowl” rapid, that makes it approximately 20 minutes of racing. If you don’t know where the put-in is, please ask!
-Teams consist of 3 members who must paddle and stick together as a team or face the wrath of the gods! (disqualification).
You need to self-rescue and provide safety for your team members (although there will be race safety at the more sticky spots provided by Wellington Rafting Company).
-Teams need to organise their own shuttles.
-The teams finish time is when the last member touches the finish flag.
-After all teams have finished the race the group will paddle to take out, licking their wounds and/or bragging about their lines taken.
-There is a maximum boat length of 9 foot (that’s 2,743mm for you modern metric peeps).
-The committee’s decision is final, you better believe it!
-To fill those empty tum tums a BBQ will be held afterwards at Kaitoke Regional Park around 5:00ish with music to follow.
-The Shield presentation and prizes will be given to the glorious and forever immortalised winning team at the band set intermission. $75 Paddle Power gift voucher to each team member for 1st place and $25 voucher for second place team members.*
-Entry fee: $15, includes entry to post race BBQ and prizes for winners.
*T&C-must be at awards ceremony during band intermission to claim prizes. If not there, prizes will be given to runner-ups. At least 2 of 3 team members need to be present to receive prizes, otherwise prizes go to runner-ups.
