Celebrate our new exhibitions with live animal experiences and drop-in art programs for all ages!
About this Event

Celebrate the launch of our new permanent exhibition, Georges River Reflections, and explore our latest Main Gallery showcase, Petrina Hicks | Snakes and Mirrors – a touring exhibition from the Museum of Australian Photography (MAPh).

To mark this special occasion, we’ll honour Country with a traditional Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country. Throughout the day, enjoy live animal encounters with Raptor Reptiles, take part in a hands-on art program led by Kamilaroi artist Amy Lea Hill-Trindall, and discover fun activities for the whole family.

Official Opening | 10 – 10.30am

Our Open Day begins with an official welcome, featuring a traditional Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country. Enjoy inspiring speeches and a captivating performance by the Fiestaville Choir, Hurstville’s multicultural community choir.

Drop-in activities | 10am – 3pm

Raptor Reptiles

Discover the wonders of Australian wildlife with Raptor Reptiles. Meet fascinating birds, such as the tawny frogmouth, and unique birds, reptiles and amphibians up close! This interactive display features two educators who will share insights about animal habitats, conservation, and the important role we can play in protecting them.

Weaving with Amy Lea Hill-Trindall

Join Kamilaroi artist Amy Lea Hill-Trindall for a drop-in ring-woven activity. She will guide you every step of the way in this relaxed activity for the whole family. No prior experience is needed, and all materials are provided.

More fun!

Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy a coffee cart, take photos at our photo station, and make their own animal hat to take home. Families can also explore new interactive elements throughout both exhibitions, perfect for visitors of all ages.

Georges River Reflections is proudly funded by the NSW Government through the NSW Social Cohesion Grants for Local Government.
