About this Event
Join us this coming Monday, November 10 at Anthology Film Archives for a one-night fundraiser screening for Hurricane Melissa relief, featuring a film program centering on Jamaican popular (and political) culture, including screenings of Khalik Allah's meditative documentary short film Khamaica (2014), followed by a rare screening of the classic Jamaican reggae film Rockers (1978).
On October 28th, Hurricane Melissa made landfall in western Jamaica as a category 5 storm, devastating multiple parishes on the island, including St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland. Residents have lost their homes, belongings, and loved ones, along with access to food, clean water, emergency services and more. In light of this, we're holding this one-night special screening to help support and celebrate the Jamaican community, with ticket sale proceeds being donated to the Food for the Poor Jamaica official relief fund.
So buy a ticket (or two), tell a friend to tell a friend, and hope to see y'all at the movies :)
