Hunting using archery methods is a great way to open up more possible hunting grounds to you. Not to mention the archery season is much longer and covers the prime pre-rut time of late October and early November. When using archery equipment, practice is mandatory. The more meaningful archery practice you get in during the summer, the better you position yourself to be successful in the fall.
We set up a temporary 3D archery course similar to a 9 hole golf course, along a trail with targets and shooting mats. All the targets will be placed within good hunting range with 35 yards being the maximum, but the ranges are unknown to the archer. Each archer will need to estimate the yardage without the use of electronics prior to taking a single shot to be scored on the target.
Hits are scored by proximity to the bullseye which will be visible and roughly in the center of the lungs/vitals. The closer you are to the center, the higher your score. A bullseye is 10 points and points go down the further away you get. If you hit the target outside of the scoring area, there will be a points deduction to simulate wounded game. A clean miss, or choosing not to take the shot counts as 0 with no deductions.
It takes about an hour and a half to shoot through the course. We will send out an email prior to the shoot with the final meeting location details and any last minute logistics.
We will be at the ECIA club range in Urbana.
Remember to be prepared for ticks and mosquitoes! Bring your own bow and arrows. Arrows may be lost if they miss the target. FYI
