We depart Farragut (Cracker Barrel-716 N Campbell Station Rd) at 8am and Knoxville (Walmart- 3051 Kinzel Way) at 9am. We arrive in the historic town of Abingdon by 11:15am ready for an included lunch at a local favorite, The Girl and The Raven. Dinner is included tonight at the Inn followed by short walking tour that ends with dessert!
Our second day, Tuesday, starts with a delicious breakfast at the Inn before our visit to neighboring Wytheville. Our stop will be at Loretto Historic Mansion. Situated on thirteen acres of rolling, verdant lawns, against a backdrop of a placid duck pond and majestic 200 year-old oaks, Loretto was originally built in 1852 as a family home and has housed five generations. Next we make our way to the Homestead Living History Museum which is a10-acre interpretative site depicting rural life from the late 1700’s to the mid-20th century. Lunch is included here before departing for our last stop in Wytheville, Trinkle Mansion. Built in the Classic Revival style over a two-year period and completed in 1912, this stately, elegant home is on the National Historic Register. We have a short drive back to Abingdon to enjoy some free time before dinner followed by the Barter Theatre's presentation of Sherlock Homes and The Case of The Jersey Lily.
On our last day, Wednesday, we enjoy another delicious breakfast at the Inn before departing for the Abingdon Muster Grounds. Certified by the National Park Service as the northern trailhead of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail, this 9-acre park is a picturesque historic site including The Keller Interpretive Center showcasing artifacts and exhibits which focus on the life in the backcountry of colonial Virginia. Our final stop of the tour will be the old freight station which now houses art galleries and seven studios.
