Join us for a high-energy evening celebrating the rich musical traditions of Central and Eastern Europe!
This vibrant and eclectic concert embodies the spirit of folk musicβ€”particularly Hungarian and Romani influencesβ€”as interpreted by major classical composers from the 18th to the 20th century.
From Haydn's witty and theatrical symphony no 60 in C major 𝐼𝑙 π‘‘π‘–π‘ π‘‘π‘Ÿπ‘Žπ‘‘π‘‘π‘œ, full of musical humor and unexpected twists, the program then journeys through Ligeti’s playful 𝑂𝑙𝑑 π»π‘’π‘›π‘”π‘Žπ‘Ÿπ‘–π‘Žπ‘› π΅π‘Žπ‘™π‘™π‘Ÿπ‘œπ‘œπ‘š π·π‘Žπ‘›π‘π‘’π‘  and BartΓ³k’s deeply rooted 44 π·π‘’π‘œπ‘  π‘“π‘œπ‘Ÿ π‘‡π‘€π‘œ π‘‰π‘–π‘œπ‘™π‘–π‘›π‘ , which vividly capture the sounds of rural Hungary. The brilliance and flair of Weber’s π΄π‘›π‘‘π‘Žπ‘›π‘‘π‘’ 𝑒 π‘…π‘œπ‘›π‘‘π‘œ π‘’π‘›π‘”π‘Žπ‘Ÿπ‘’π‘ π‘’ is followed by Brahms' beloved π»π‘’π‘›π‘”π‘Žπ‘Ÿπ‘–π‘Žπ‘› π·π‘Žπ‘›π‘π‘’π‘  providing a rousing conclusion with rich harmonies and rhythmic vigor.
Together, these works offer a dynamic and engaging portrait of how Eastern European folk traditions have inspired composers across generations.
