About this Event
Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. This crime occurs when a trafficker uses force, fraud, or coercion to control another person for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex acts or soliciting labor or services against his/her will. However, the trafficker may use appealing methods towards the victim to initiate contact, leading them into a life of human trafficking.
In this workshop, we cover smuggling vs. human trafficking, international vs domestic human trafficking, labor trafficking, trafficking in Texas, minor sex trafficking, adult sex trafficking, forms of trafficking, recruiting, grooming methodology, trafficking indicators, who the traffickers are, and how to report. For teens, we cover internet safety, what sexting is, how to be proactive at school, how to respond or report, and how to speak up. We will share real-life stories relevant to our local community in this workshop.
Teens must be at least 12 years of age and accompanied by a parent or guardian to attend. This topic can be intense to hear and discuss.
Human Trafficking Awareness is 1 1/2 hours in length followed by 1/2 hour of Q&A.
