Cost to register: $250 per person
Location: United Way Winnipeg Learning Centre, Main Floor, 580 Main Street, Winnipeg
The HR Community of Practice Program is being delivered in partnership with Barry Jansen of JansenHR. United Way Winnipeg initiated the Human Resources Community of Practice (HR CoP) to support learning, networking, sharing, as well as the development and the continuous improvement of effective HR.
Traditionally, the HR Community of Practice Program has been made available exclusively to United Way agency partners. This year, United Way Winnipeg’s Learning Centre is pleased to also offer this program publicly to staff of nonprofit, charitable organizations in Winnipeg.
Participants in the HR CoP will experience a blend of structured learning, opportunity to explore participant HR issues and challenges, peer support/networking, and skill building. Reflecting Imagine Canada Standards concerned with effective HR practice, participants will have increased knowledge of and skills in leadership, recruitment, high performance teams, coaching, performance reviews, facilitating terminations, managing change/transition, and talent management. Participants will have an opportunity to discuss how the global pandemic has impacted their organization’s HR functions.
The public offering of the HR CoP for this coming year will consist of a total of 10 sessions. Each two-hour session will occur in-person at United Way’s Learning Centre and generally take place on one day per month from September 2024 to June 2025. Specific dates are noted below.
The following topic areas may be explored throughout the ten sessions, though there may be others depending on what the group interest is:
- Building a High Performing Team (characteristics of high performing teams, stages of team development, the five dysfunctions of a team).
- Coaching for Performance (establishing performance expectations for staff, how to effectively hold staff accountable, effectively delivering reinforcing and redirecting feedback, progressive discipline, strategies for having difficult performance-related conversations with staff).
- Conducing Effective Performance Reviews (best practices on performance reviews and how to facilitate effective performance review meetings with staff).
- Introduction to Succession Planning (best practices on setting up a succession plan and how to identify high potential employees).
- Retaining & Engaging Your Staff (best practices on creating a workplace where employees are engaged and motivated)
