ABOUT THE INCREDIBLE ARTISTS

Taniyah Aris' piece, Noir Galore, was selected to be part of the "Dress Codes: Photographing cultures and identities through fashion," exhibition.

Noir Galore” is all about the things that have been labeled as ‘ghetto,’ or ‘unconventional’ by society," she said. "So, the afros, the gold chains and the nails.”

The exhibition was previously on display in the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach.

Aris is a rising senior at Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts.

The Palm Beach Gardens native said she finds inspiration all around her.

“My family, my friends, the music I listen to; Sade, A Tribe Called Quest, Amy Winehouse," Aris said. "I love music and I also love life in a sense that I am meshing it all together. I feel like when I’m creating I am more than one thing.”

More than 150 Palm Beach County students submitted their work, but Aris won first place in the competition; earning her a $4,000 scholarship.

“Opening night when I walked in, I didn’t know what to expect; it was insane," she said.

Aris said winning was humbling and boosted her confidence.

She hopes to have exhibitions across the world someday and eventually become a collector who helps young artists.

Evin Molina

The Caribbean fashion show was a show hosted by clubs in Dreyfoos School Of The Arts, as a freshman, Evin took the challenge of making his first ever two dresses as Aris as the model. He created pieces celebrating and modernizing traditional colors and garments of Haiti and Jamaica. (2021-2022)

After the first show, there was a spark in Evin. With the support of Mrs. Bennett (principal of DSOA) and Mrs. Prince (art teacher), Evin was able to create annual fashion shows at Dreyfoos. Sophomore year Evin managed a Fashion Parade with 50+ students involved and parading the whole school. With also creating a collection of 8 designs in 2 months. (2022-2023)

Over the summer, Evin worked with Rohi’s Readery and Pride to host a fashion show at CityPlace in West Palm Beach. Working with Stevie Gonzalez to create 2 collections, one of his own and Stevie added her own designs. (2022-2023)

This year, Evin managed a Fashion club with Kaityln Bradwell and Laura Argaez with 20+ students. The club works with the fashion shows and for anyone that was to get involved in fashion for fun. (2023-2024)

For this year’s fashion show, Evin wanted to celebrate and recognize the importance of culture. “ I would constantly think about my own roots (Mexico & Honduras) and culture created by our families. As clothes is a big stable of us, so are sweets. I studied sweets around North America and Asia. With the focus of stories I heard from people growing up with these sweets and areas. Being inspired by the decade fashion trends of when the sweets were first made, it all formed my mission. How can I use fashion to capture the memories and history that comes with these sweets to represent cultures. “ (2023-2024)

Evin’s a rising Senior at Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts.

“ I find my inspiration through my language. My language is how I understand, see and experience things. It’s what allows me to create and understand my power while also embracing my love. “

“ It’s honestly been unreal to be able to produce two fashion shows every year, I’m so grateful and excited that I have these opportunities to bring communities together. It’s the best part of these events, seeing the enjoyment, how its embrace from the people and environments. ”

“ I hope to bring all my wonders to the world and produce unforgettable events. While also establishing my own house for my brand and supporting outstanding artist. “ - Evin
