HPR’s Atherton Concert Series is back with a new lineup of local musicians celebrating jazz! Join us for the Hawaiʻi Jazz Performance Series at our Honolulu studio featuring: Hot Club of Hulaville with Kelsea Armstrong, Tommy James Trio, Arara de Vento, and Eha Batutas.

Don’t miss your chance to hear their intimate performances and exclusive setlists in person at our Honolulu studio at 738 Kāheka Street. These performances will be recorded for future broadcasts and online content.

About the artists:

The Hot Club of Hulaville started out as a Django Reinhardt tribute band and won their Na Hoku Hano Hano award for Best Jazz Album with their highly acclaimed "Django Would Go!" CD.

Duane Padilla, violin
After earning degrees from Northwestern University and Yale University, concert artist and educator Duane Padilla performs with the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra and is an active classical chamber music performer. Duane's more recent artistic endeavors have turned towards jazz. As a founding member of The Hot Club of Hulaville, he won the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts's award for jazz album of the year for their gypsy jazz release "Django Would Go!". Recent concert collaborations include duo performances with Pianist Tommy James (Music Director of the Duke Ellington Orchestra NYC), fingerstlye guitar legend Jeff Linsky, Guitarist Paul Mehling (Hot Club of San Francisco), Grammy winning Hawaiian Slack Key Guitarist Jeff Peterson, and Jazz Ukulele Grand Master Ben Chong. He has opened concerts for jazz giants Martin Taylor, John Jorgensen, and John Pizzarelli. He currently performs with Mana Music Quartet whose album Queen Liliuokalani won Instrumental album of the year from the Hawaii academy of recording arts.
Sonny Silva, Guitar
A Honolulu-born guitarist and founder of the Hot Club of Hulaville, this Na Hoku Hano Hano award winning artist has toured Japan and Asia and has been featured in Europe from France to Portugal. Notable performances include opening for John Pizarrelli at the Historic Hawaii Theatre, performances at the premiere American gypsy jazz festival Djangofest Northwest and numerous performances at Blue Note Hawaii and frequent collaborations with members of the Hot Club of San Francisco
Joshua Kaye, piano
Pianist Joshua Kaye moved to Honolulu in 2008 after spending over a decade in the San Francisco jazz scene. While living in Honolulu, he has performed shows at Blue Note Hawaii both solo as well as with his trio. He is the bandleader for the neo-soul/jazz group Adagio and has led many tribute shows for Blue Note including tributes to Tony Bennett, Stevie Wonder, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, and Nina Simone. Besides performing live, Joshua is also a music producer and composer. His original music has been used in YouTube videos which have been streamed over a billion times.
Kelsea Armstrong - Voice
Kelsea (they/she) is a multi-faceted creative based in Hawaiʻi with a background in traditional jazz, rnb/soul, reggae and beyond. With experience as the premier vocalist for critically acclaimed groups like Nā Hōkū Hanohano award-winning Honolulu Jazz Quartet and the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa jazz ensemble, Armstrong has left an indelible mark on the local jazz scene.

The Hawaiʻi Jazz Performance Series takes place on Saturdays June and early July. The evening concerts begin at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Doors open thirty minutes before the show starts.

This event will be filmed, recorded and photographed. Your presence constitutes your release of all rights to your recorded voice and image, which may be used in projects by Hawaiʻi Public Radio.

Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis — advance ticket purchase is strongly suggested. General admission tickets are $45, with 100% of the proceeds from each event directly supporting the featured artists.

Ticket Policy: Ticket sales are final. Sorry, no refunds.

Parking: Street parking is available in the surrounding neighborhood (metered parking is free after 6 pm).
