Join us for this wonderful performance of early music by HPO Singers, accompanied by the specialist early musicians of Ensemble OrQuesta Baroque.
​Written in the mid-17th century, Carissimi's oratorios Jephte and Jonas are full of variety, imagination, and experimentation. Carissimi's writing is engaging and full of contrasts, rhythmic vitality, and harmonic interest, with simple hymn-like sections and expressive solo items contrasted with vibrant choruses. Carissimi understood the power of storytelling and how to weave a web of musico-dramatic characterisations. Both works remind us of the power of music to convey emotion.
The programme also includes beautiful motets.
