As Māori, your whakapapa always knows you and is always with you. How does this carry through into writing? What expressions of your whakapapa take form on the page? Emma Hislop (Kāti Māmoe, Waitaha, Kāi Tahu; Ruin) poses these questions and more to three fellow kaituhi Māori, Michelle Rahurahu (Ngaati Rahurahu, Ngaati Tahu-Ngaati Whaoa), Shilo Kino (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Te Ata) and Talia Marshall (Ngāti Kuia, Rangitāne o Wairau, Ngāti Rārua, Ngāti Takihiku). Together they kōrero about how where they come from creates layers and informs their work.
