How to Write a Sketch with Fernando A. Funes
(Sketch Writing Class)
Saturday, May 4 to Saturday, May 25 | 4-Week Class + Table Read

3PM-6PM

$120

This 4-week workshop will teach some of the core principles of comedy sketch writing with the purpose of reading a piece of original finished written work in front of a live audience. The primary goal of this workshop will be to write original sketches in class and take it from page to stage in just four classes.

We will go over:

 • How to write a sketch for the stage
 • How to think of ideas for sketches
 • How to write first drafts of sketches
 • How to edit your sketch
 • How to pitch ideas on a sketch that is not yours
 • How to promote your sketch show

No prior experience necessary but welcome. Writers of other varieties – poets, playwrights, screenwriters, short story writers, novelists, etc. – are also welcomed and encouraged to attend.

At the end of the 4-week workshop, the participants will share their piece of written work conceived in class with an audience of family, friends, and other invited guests at a staged reading. The participants will be able to experience first hand the entire sketch writing cycle from thinking of an idea, putting it down on paper, refining it to perfection, and then bringing it to life in front of a live audience. Hopefully, this experience of having their work brought to life for the joy and entertainment of others will encourage participants to explore sketch writing further and comedy in general.
