How to Tie and Loosen a Tie: TRANS SEPARATIST CRIT GROUP
UKS is pleased to host How to Tie and Loosen a Tie, a critique group for professional artists who identify as trans and/or non-binary, conceived and hosted by artist Charlie Vince Jakobsson.
Are you feeling lonely in your studio, lost or completely stuck? Do you need to let your hair down or get your shit together? Come and loosen your tie – or make that perfect Half Windsor – at UKS’ new crit group! How to Tie and Loosen a Tie is a space for collegial exchange, critical dialogue and reflection. It’s a space where we can share current research, process, setbacks and breakthroughs; a setting providing both challenge and support in your work as an artist. If you are excited to engage with the work of others and receive feedback on your own work, this is the place for you.
At a time when the lives of trans people are under increasing pressure, we long for a more tolerant world and want to provide a space for, not against; an opportunity to reflect together on the artistic potential and possible pitfalls of trans practices, strategies and experiences, or simply discuss technical issues and ongoing work in a setting where we can talk freely.
Sessions will be held monthly at UKS, outside of opening hours. Each session will focus on two artists/practices/projects. In our first meeting we will get to know each other, eat some food and discuss how we want to structure the sessions.
Please sign up if you are a professional artist who identifies as trans and/or nonbinary. All artistic mediums are welcome. This group is not open to full-time students.
If you have any questions, please send an email to [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you!
