presentation. Sponsored by Elks Drug Awareness Committee and HTPD
About this Event
A lighter, a sharpie marker, even a baseball cap. These unsuspecting items can be ways to hide drugs. If you suspect your child is using drugs, you do not want to miss this presentation, How To Search Your Child's Bedroom on Tuesday, September 24th at 5 p.m. at the West Shore-Harrisburg Elks Lodge on St John’s Church Road in Camp Hill. The program is sponsored by the Elks Drug Awareness Committee (DAC) and local Law Enforcement.
Becky Arnold of Dauphin County Probation Services, Juvenile Division will conduct a bedroom search and educate parents and guests on what to look for, how to search a room and the various types of vessels and hiding places teens use to hide drugs. Arnold will also illustrate different types of suspicious behaviors.
Dr. Sarah Kawasaki, Division Director of Addiction Services at Penn State University College of Medicine, will also participate in the event and take questions from participants.
Since the D.A.R.E program was defunded, the dangers of drug use have not been adequately presented to school aged children. The result is that drug use has steadily been on the rise. According to drugabusestatistics.org, deaths from opioid overdose have increased 500% for people ages 15 to 24 since 1999.
This pilot class is being introduced to the community to protect children. Parents, grandparents, elected officials and school board members are encouraged to attend. Raymour & Flanigan is providing the furniture for the bedroom display. The event is free and open to the public.
