How to Meditatewith Kelsang Phunwang
‘When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and our mind becomes still, a deep happiness and contentment naturally arises from within’ – Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
Why meditate? Most of us would like to experience a sense of calmness and peace. An inner happiness that stays with us and helps us face problems and difficulties without getting caught up in negative thoughts and emotions. Meditation is a really useful method for achieving these goals.
Basically, the purpose of meditation is to develop and maintain a special experience of inner peace by identifying and reducing negative states of mind and replacing them with positive states of mind. It helps us develop clarity and perspective so that we can solve problems and deal with difficult situations in positive and constructive ways.
For some of us, meditation might sound like a good idea – but we may feel unsure of how to get started, or uncertain about whether we are doing it the ‘right’ way. Just like developing any other new skill, meditation takes practice and training – and having the support of a teacher and learning in a group can make all the difference.
This course sets out clear, easy-to-follow steps in establishing good meditation habits and practices.
If you are just a beginner this is a great place to start; and if you have already been practising meditation for some time, the course will provide tips and advice to help you take your practice to the next step.
‘If we train in meditation our mind will gradually become more and more peaceful and we shall experience purer and purer forms of happiness. Eventually we shall able to stay happy all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances.’ – Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
