This free program, presented in-person at Linda Hall Library, supports the exhibition Mapping the Heavens: Art, Astronomy, and Exchange between the Islamic Lands and Europe, co-organized with and hosted at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
How do you map the heavens? Working astronomers of ages past used star atlases to document star positions and arrange them into constellations. These ornate and beautiful books, many of which were exhibited in Out of This World and Further Out, trace how we’ve seen the sky across the centuries.
