STRATEGIES FOR SCULPTURAL CO-PRODUCTION
This symposium hosts a series of presentations and interventions from artists, researchers and curators each exploring possibilities for bringing public groups into sculpture making, exploring how and why we might make artworks with other people.
Creating space for conversation and reflection, we will ask:
- What are the possibilities as artists, researchers and other arts professionals for reciprocal knowledge sharing with wider public groups in relation to making?
- What do we need to consider in order to offer opportunities for others to meaningfully shape artworks?
- How might we observe and understand hierarchies and power dynamics arise in relation to making and presenting co-produced works?
- How do we analyse, critique and understand sculpture made by public groups?
Speakers and contributors to be announced soon.
The symposium marks the final part of a longer project, funded by Arts Council England, exploring co-production as a strategy for sculpture making. All Kinds of Hands, an exhibition at the Storey, Lancaster, was an earlier phase in this project and presents a starting point to expand on themes and topics related to co-produced sculpture. The show featured works by five artists (Ellie Barrett, Nisha Duggal, Beata Podstawa, Assunta Ruocco and Sarah Ryder) which each involved different models of collaborating with others.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
A childcare professional will be on site to support parents/carers to present at/attend this event.
