WHY A JOURNALING WORKSHOP?

While many people keep a diary or journal, few truly appreciate what a powerful tool they have literally at their fingertips. Countless studies and many years of research have proved that therapeutic writing techniques can be as effective as certain types of tallking therapies for helping people overcome a variety of problems and improve their wellbeing.

Expressive writing is the name James Pennebaker used for the type of brief writing interventions he developed during scientific research. Surprisingly, the effect had an impact not only on mental health but also on physical health. The link between stress and illness is clear, but why is writing so important in reducing stress? Pennebaker hit upon the answer and called it Catharsis.

  • Learning how to journal for wellbeing can help with anxiety, depression, insomnia, and improve focus.
  • It's great for problem-solving, self-reflection and personal growth.
  • With the right approach these skills can improve relationships, job satisfaction, and resilience.
  • Expressive writing can also help to explore deeper concerns over issues such as grief, unresolved conflict, and trauma. (This workshop is not a substitute for professional therapy but will give you the tools to explore your own experiences and a place to start.)

"This workshop was really interesting and surprisingly relevant to me. Jo was very gentle, informative, supportive and enabling."
