About this Event

Learn 4 different styles of hemming techniques to shorten or lengthen just about any of

your shorts, skirts, pants, and dresses in this workshop!

1 class, 3 hours.

Who you are: A sewist who knows machine sewing basics (how to thread the machine,

wind a bobbin, and sew following a seam allowance). You often find yourself wanting to

shorten (or even lengthen!) your pants, shorts, skirts, and dresses.

Class structure: Hands-on machine sewing class lead by sewist, Louise Sutton. During

this course, you will meet with them and up to 4 other learners for one, 3-hour

workshop.

Course date: Saturday, January 11th, 11am-2pm

Class curriculum: In this workshop, we’ll discuss how to choose the appropriate hem

finish and machine needles for different garments and fabrics, and practice 4 different

types of hems including: Denim hemming, blind hems, rolled hems, and using a facing

to lengthen a hem.

Outcomes: Participants will learn how to hem just about any shorts, pants, skirt, or

dress using the 4 techniques taught in the workshop, and will keep their sewing

samples as future reference.

What you need: Bring yourself! If you have a sewing machine you'd like to use, please

bring it along with the pedal, presser foot, and needle. If you do not have a sewing

machine, no worries- We have machines available for use. Participants are encouraged

to bring their own machine to class to learn it's settings and functionality, but if you don'thave one and aren't ready to invest in one, we'd be happy to make one available to you during class.

If you have taken our Sewing 101 course, you will already have the necessary tool kit to

complete this project. If you have not taken a class with us, you will also need the

following tools to complete your hem samples. You can buy these supplies at checkout,

just add on the Beginners Sewing Kit to your order or bring these materials if you

already own them:

● Hand sewing needles

● Seam gauge (an absolute necessity for hemming!)

● Seam ripper

● Pins

● Fabric scissors

● Small pair of thread snips (tiny scissors for trimming threads)

● Tailor's chalk

Fabric samples, machine needles, and thread will be provided for this workshop by The

Nest.

*No refund is given for any missed workshops or classes.
