Growing your own plants from seed can be extremely rewarding but how can you create the optimum conditions to grow strong, healthy plants from such small beginnings? Join professional gardener Jenny Samuels for a Friday morning gardening workshop to learn the essentials of growing from seed, and nurturing seedlings into healthy plants.
As part of this workshop you will have a go at sowing a variety of seed types, practise pricking out, and learn lots of tricks and tips to produce sturdy young plants.
You will learn about:
- Choosing seeds
- Germination requirements
- Seed compost, vermiculite and perlite
- How to sow large, medium and small seeds
- Pricking out seedlings
- Seedling care
- Hardening off and planting out
This workshop is one of our Monthly Gardening Workshops which take place on the first Friday morning (apart from this one which is the last Friday in March) in our Studio at Old Barn Garden Centre. These small-group sessions, led by expert gardener Jenny Samuels, cover essential skills to help your garden thrive—whether it’s growing plants from seed, mastering composting, taking cuttings, or selecting and planting seasonal bulbs. With a new topic each month, you’ll gain practical knowledge and confidence, building your gardening know-how. Come for one session or join us regularly!
