So, who is Rob Hopkins?
Rob Hopkins is a pioneer in sustainability, community resilience, and the power of collective imagination. He’s best known as the co-founder of the Transition movement, which began in Totnes, Devon, and has since inspired thousands of communities worldwide to reimagine and rebuild their local systems in response to climate change and fossil fuel dependency.
At the heart of Rob’s work is a bold question:
“What happens when we lose the ability to imagine a better world?”
For him, imagination isn’t just creativity—it’s a survival tool, a catalyst for unlocking sustainable, equitable futures.
He’s the author of several influential books, including:
• The Transition Handbook
• The Power of Just Doing Stuff
• From What Is to What If
• And his recent release: How to Fall in Love with the Future (June 2025)
Rob’s recent projects include Field Recordings from the Future, a collaboration with artist Mr Kit that uses sound and storytelling to open “time portals” into hopeful futures.

He also teaches courses on future-thinking and regularly speaks at international conferences, blending activism with art, systems change, and joyful provocation.
