About this Event

Join artist Chris Adams (the human behind Corvidopolis, The Mushroom Tarot and Sporelust!), to discuss & practice basic techniques for drawing anything––but in this case mushrooms & other inspirational beings from the natural world. Chris will describe his basic processes of drawing from the real world & photographic reference, work with the class on some fun experimentations with common media and outline his approach to combining personal creative inspiration with accurate––sometimes scientific––observation.

Suggested Class Materials: You will receive a “How to Draw a Mushroom” info sheet with some tips & nonsense, and some basic tools will be available. Please bring your favorite media and some blank paper so we can make the most out of our time, and it doesn’t hurt to show up with technical questions or artistic goals you might want to discuss!

Chris was born & raised in the Willamette Valley of Oregon and has always had a fascination with and appreciation of forests, coastal habitats and all the inhabitants of the ecosystems that straddled his hometown. During his 20’s he was introduced to Myco-foraging by his morel loving wife & deer hunting brother, and his lens into the natural world switched almost instantly from hiking, skiing and fishing to a deep fascination with mycology. Quickly his body of work merged with his new love (obsession?) with mushrooms, and each day since has pushed him a little more into the magical world of mycology, mushroom people and growing sense that perhaps the mushrooms found him––rather than the alternate scenario. Chris is the Founder & Creator of Sporelust!, The Mushroom Tarot, and Corvidopolis. His work merges nature, magic, absurdity, and science in an illustrative style fueled by skate-punk culture of the late 20th century and 1960s counterculture at large.
