HOW TO BUY A TELESCOPEEvery year, would-be hobbyists buy expensive telescopes, only to have them sit and collect dust, because no one could get it working right.
We can help, with some plain-English advice. Why buy a telescope when a good pair of binoculars may be more useful? What makes a good starter scope? What will I see with it? What are really the most useful gifts for a beginning astronomer? How can I get started without breaking the bank?
Amateur astronomy doesn't have to be expensive. Tar River Astronomy Club president John Todd and astronomy educator Steve Schmidt together, have over 100 years of combined experience observing the night sky with a variety of instruments and useful accessories. They will share advice on telescope types as well as experiences observing the night sky with a wide variety of equipment.
HOW TO BUY A TELESCOPE is part of the November 1 meeting, of the Tar River Astronomy Club at the Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences, which follows immediately after the presentation.
Get involved. Families are encouraged to attend! Museum admission is FREE to program participants and meeting attendees.
