The Choral Society’s upcoming concert, How Sweet the Sound, features a program of beautiful songs: some old, some new, both sacred and secular, but all Sweet to the ear.The centerpiece of our concert is the evocative Sunrise Mass by Norwegian composer Oleg Gjeilo.
The four movements of this spiritual work take the listener on a metaphysical journey from the heavens to Earth.
Our eclectic program includes one of Japan’s most beautiful and poetic folk songs, Sakura, and contemporary and very unique arrangements of Amazing Grace and Paul Simon’s Sound of Silence.
No repertoire of Sweet Sounds is complete without the contemplative Ave Verum Corpus by Byrd, Hassler’s Agnus Dei and the beautiful Locus Iste by Bruckner.
Under the direction of conductor Donna Langford and accompanied by our Chamber Ensemble, our concert is a celebration of Sweet Sounds from across the centuries.
