Event Description:
Join us with Richard Sauber (Rhode Island & Lincoln 1973), former Special Counsel for Joe Biden, for a fireside presentation on how Ronald Reagan saved Joe Biden from being criminally charged.
During the investigation of President Biden after classified documents were found in his home, the prosecutor and the FBI found certain handwritten materials that were also classified. The prosecutor seemed keen on recommending an indictment of the President (sitting Presidents cannot be indicted while in office). But deep in the bowels of the National Archives were court filings concerning President Reagan that made clear that the Justice Department had previously found similar materials but did not consider them a basis for charges.
More about Richard Sauber:
As Special Counsel to President Biden, Richard spearheaded the President’s defense to Special Counsel Robert Hur’s investigation of the discovery of classified documents in the President’s home and former office. He also led the successful White House response to the attempted impeachment of President Biden.
In 2021, Richard was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as general counsel of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Prior to joining the Department of Veterans Affairs, he was co-managing partner of the Washington, DC litigation boutique Robbins, Russell, Englert, Orseck & Untereiner LLP, which combined with Kramer Levin in 2022. Earlier in his career, he spent seven years as a prosecutor in the Department of Justice’s Criminal Fraud Section.
Richard has been lead counsel to many of the largest U.S. companies in bet-the-company civil and criminal litigation, congressional investigations, and matters before the U.S. Supreme Court.
The event will begin by a presentation from Richard Sauber, followed by an informal Q&A session, and then drinks at the King's Arms! Nibbles and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) will be provided prior to the presentation.
