About this Event

How do humanitarian organizations provide shelter in conflict areas?

Providing shelter is an essential component of humanitarian response. Displaced people need a roof – or at least a tent – over their heads.  But as displacement drags on, tents are not enough.

Join us February 21st as we explore some of the challenging issues around shelter – how to provide it in on-going conflicts? How to transition to more durable shelter when conflicts drag on?

This hybrid event, jointly organized by Georgetown’s Institute for the Study of International Migration and the Global Human Development Program, will feature organizations working in protracted conflicts in Syria and Chad.

PANEL:

  • Hazam Rihawi, representing the White Helmets who work in Northwest Syria *to be joined by a volunteer from Aleppo/Idlib eporting from the field.
  • Omunda Tarbosh with iACT, a Los Angeles-based NGO who will report from Eastern Chad where he has been working with refugees from Darfur since 2009.
  • Joseph Ashmore, IOM Shelter and Settlement Specialist
