Artistic exercises that will ask people to move, act, write, speak, and play, sometimes in ways they might not expect.
About this Event

Artist Robby Herbst invites participants into what he calls “the emotional illogic of hiding from yourself” and “communicating through impractical means.” Over 90 minutes, he will guide the group through exercises that ask people to move, act, write, speak, and play, sometimes in ways they might not expect. Herbst notes that “together this will add up to a kind of communication, which could be understood as a kind of art.”

This is not a sit back and watch event. Participants will be asked to interact with one another, and the exercises will include physical contact. It is designed for those who are curious and daring enough to step into an experience led by, and shared with, others.

Please note: Peanut butter will be used in this workshop. Participants with allergies should take necessary precautions.

About the artist:

Robby Herbst is an interdisciplinary artist whose work interrogates social and behavioral architectures through social sculpture, organizing, writing, publishing and visual art. An instigator of the geographically sited critical landscape projects of the Llano Del Rio Collective and a co-founder of the critical art collective The Journal of Aesthetics and Protest, Herbst has been an artist in residence at the Headlands Center for the Arts, Villa Montalvo, and Provisions Library. His projects have been supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation for Artwriting, The Mike Kelley Foundation, The Danish Arts Council, and the Durfee Foundation.
