Neighbors,I'm reaching out to a few of you that submitted comments at the recent Project Review Board meeting regarding a new housing project. As the District 1 Councilor, I represent this part of Freeport - centered around downtown - and want to connect with your neighborhood to better understand your thoughts on housing in Freeport, and development in general. I was hoping to meet some of you at tomorrow's site walk, but I'll be out of town and won't be able to attend.
I would, however, like to propose a neighborhood meeting after the holidays. Not just to talk about the one specific proposed project, but to discuss how housing projects in general progress through the Town's permitting process. And to chat about what we might want for Freeport overall when it comes to growth and change. I'm not suggesting an official town meeting with a fixed agenda, but rather a more general forum for open discussion.
For my part, I can help explain some of the planning processes that have been going on over the last few years, and I can talk in particular about how and when the public can comment on, and influence, new projects. I don't have a "side" to take on any of the projects, and the Council doesn't get a vote in the typical permitting process. I'm hoping only to listen, and to share any info I can about the process.
I've asked the Grange if they would host a meeting, and they've generously agreed. If you're available on Saturday, January 10 at 10:00 AM, I'd encourage you to bring a cup of coffee with you and walk down to the Grange for an informal forum.
Please share the invitation with friends and neighbors who you think might be interested. I'm available in the meantime for any questions or concerns.
Looking forward to meeting or re-connecting with you.
