Garland County residents can dispose of household hazardous waste from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, at the Garland County Fairgrounds, 4831 Malvern Rd., for a safe, free disposal of unused/leftover household products containing toxic, flammable, corrosive, or reactive chemicals. Accepted residential quantified items include:
- Automotive: Antifreeze, brake or transmission fluid, waxes and polishes, and cleaning compounds. (Oil filters are not accepted. Used oil is accepted at many auto service centers.)
- Paints: Oil-based, water/latex-based, stains, shellacs, lacquer, varnish, preservatives, and aerosol cans.
- Solvents: Mineral spirits, paint thinners, turpentine, alcohol, and other non-chlorinated solvents.
- Pesticides/Herbicides: Over-the-counter and pet care products.
- Water-Based Cleaners: All home cleaners for carpets, drains, metal, mildew, ovens, toilets, and ammonia products.
- Oxidizers: Bleaches, peroxide, carbon tetrachloride.
- Compressed Gas Cylinders: Outdated propane bottles, disposable and expired fuel tanks.
- Flammable Liquids: Kerosene and diesel fuel.
- Tires: Passenger Car Tires (limit to 4 per customer and no rims).
- Electronics: Monitors, CPU’s, keyboards, computer mouses, VCR/DVD players, televisions (19” or smaller), electronic games, etc.
Not accepted items include:
- Commercial quantities
- Unknown products: Products must be in original containers with labels attached.
- Explosive materials
- Lead acid batteries for auto, marine, golf carts, etc.… (can be recycled at most auto garages).
