Wayne County residents may participate in the upcoming household hazardous waste (HHW) collection event at the Westland Shopping Center.Examples of Acceptable Items:
✅ Household paints, stains, dyes
✅ Floor wax, floor care products, carpet cleaner
✅ Furniture polish, bathroom cleaners, stain removers, solvents
✅ Pharmaceutical waste (non-controlled substances only)
✅ Nail polish, glue
✅ Fertilizer, lawn and garden chemicals
✅ Antifreeze, motor oil, gas
✅ Automotive batteries and dry cell batteries, fluorescent bulbs
✅ Fire extinguishers, smoke detectors
✅ Mercury thermometers, thermostats, elemental mercury and electronics recycling
✅ Computer CPU's, monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards
✅ Cell phones, fax machines, TVs, copiers
Location: Wayne County Community College
Only household generated products from Wayne County residents will be accepted. Items that will not be accepted include: commercial waste, industrial waste, radioactive material, explosives, ammunition, 55 gallon drums, household trash, refrigerators, microwaves or other appliances, tires, yard waste, roofing shingles, & concrete. If you can't make it to this event, you can also drop off household hazardous waste materials at the HHW Center, located at 10843 W. Five Mile Rd, Northville (just west of Napier Road in Salem Township), by appointment only. Visit hometoxicscenter.org to schedule an appointment and view the list of accepted materials.
For electronic and hazardous waste disposal, items can also be dropped off at Environmental Recycling Group (ERG) in Livonia.
To use this service, obtain a voucher by contacting the Environmental Services Division at (734) 326-5708 or emailing [email protected]. Limited vouchers are also available at Northville Township Hall.
